Will I Ever Retire? Writing, Purpose, and Life Beyond 60
The state pension retirement age is on the rise
Writing gives me space, and it also gives me a purpose in life. Many years ago, with the rise of the internet I made a stupid comment, stating the World Wide Web would be the end of writers. My statement couldn’t be further from the truth.
Yesterday, I had a long overdue conversation with a good friend, and we discussed many things, including work. Wayne told me he was looking forward to the off ramp, i.e. retirement. Recently, I found myself telling others that I didn’t intend to work beyond the age of 60.
The state retirement age in the UK mens that I won’t officially be able to retire until the age of 68. I’m a firm believer that routines are helpful, and I’ll carry that belief into retirement. So what would my retirement look like;
Travel
Reading
Writing
Cycling
Watching sport
Write a book
Hmmmm. There’s an occurring theme, those very things are everything I am doing now. Of course, I won’t necessarily want to be working for a corporate in my 60s, but the way I live my life now look very much like the one I’ll live later in life. And that brings me back to the title of this post. Will I ever retire? I’m not so sure.
