John Woz Network - Behind the Scenes
The other day, someone inquired about my prolific writing habits, wondering where I unearth the time. I'd contend it's no different to the commitment of dedicated video gamers or those who devote themselves to the gym. Motivation, an insatiable thirst for learning, and effective time management constitute to my writing habits.
My body clock has told me I only need six hours sleep. That’s great, but it means I’m awake most mornings at 4am, or 04:00 hours, as I prefer to say! I awoke this morning, and after downing a cup of Costa Rican roasted coffe, I wrote my latest article on Halloween, and the theme of sustainability. More on that later.
Outside of writing, I love creating digital content, usually with Adobe, and a few other tools and tricks. I’m a huge fan of iOS, and MacOS, but it’s got nothing to do with my surname (Steve Wozniak was the co-founder of the world’s best tech company). My MacBook Pro powered by the M2 chip is quicker than Usain Bolt in his prime. In fact, I am drafting this edition with a host of apps running in the background. Enough of that, I’m not getting paid by Apple.
My mission is to raise awareness about global issues, with a particular focus on sustainability and the underlying human behaviours driving these concerns. After all, I am a sustainability professional. It’s at this point, I’d like to introduce you to some of the campaigns I am working on, starting with the future leaders of this world.
Displaced Children need a prayer and positive action
Israeli airstrikes continue to pound Gaza, eight days on from the terrifying and audacious assault on Israel by Hamas. There are always two sides to conflict, but it’s the innocent children who always suffer.
Hundreds of thousands of children across the globe will never know what it’s like to have a fun and to enjoy the thrills of a normal childhood. Climate change, modern slavery and war are the indiscriminate bear traps for the youth of today.
I’ve decided to raise money for UNICEF by selling my latest design, ‘Increase the Peace’ T-shirt. All profits will go to the charity. You can read about all that, and how to support my efforts by reading the article in the link below. If you would like to head straight to the shop, click this link (ladies t-shirts are also available, search the shop). I’m also happy to offer a hoody, jumper or another design to raise money for the charity. Just get in touch.
What does a pumpkin taste like?
How many of you have carved a pumpkin and never tasted its flavour? My latest sustainability article(s) unlock the horrors of mass waste during the Halloween period. Millions are spent on pumpkins annually, with many of those ending up in landfill sites. Yikes.
It’s mind-blowing to think that 1.3 billion pounds of pumpkins end up in landfills around the United States every year! Think of all the logistics needed to harvest, transport and collect those pumpkins. Politicians and business leaders talk about the need to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, but nobody is lifting the lid on another needles existential problem.
💡Did you know? As many as 828 million people were affected by hunger in 2021 – 46 million people more from a year earlier and 150 million more from 2019. World Health Organisation. bearandfin.co.uk
I find it frustrating that people on all corners of the globe rely on food banks to sustain themselves, yet millions are happy to waste perfectly good food. The world is in the midst of several global security risks, caused by climate change and conflict. In 2022, Alaska cancelled the Snow Crab harvest because a mind-blowing 2.2 billion crabs disappeared.
Shoppers across the UK continue to complain about the lack of fresh fruit and vegetables, yet few are willing to grow their own, and nobody wants to harvest the local farmer’s crop.
Everyone has the ability to enjoy the Halloween festivities in a more sustainable way. Having a responsible mindset is the key to reducing waste, and causing less carnage to the planet.

Rishi Sunak may have scored a home run with Net Zero U-Turn
I’m happy to beat the crap out of politicians. Lies, u-turns and false promises seem to be the basis of global politics. In a recent interview, Sir John Major spoke about entering Parliament in the late 1960s. Sir John explained that the majority of MPs had all served in the military, and that the all understood the meaning of citizenship and integrity. That can’t be said of today’s so-called ‘leaders’.
Britain’s recent Prime Ministers have taken a lot of criticism, including Rishi Sunak. Recently the Climate Change Committee called Sunak out for a Net-Zero u-turn. One of the CCC’s gripes was the decision to delay the ban on new diesel and petrol cars until 2035.
For once, I totally agree with Mr Sunak. I am not sure if the PM fully understands the huge environmental risks associated with the production of Electric Vehicles. I do, and I wrote about them, in this must-read article. You know what to do, hit the link below.
💡Did you know that today, October 14th, is international E-waste day? The UN estimates approximately 11-18 million children work in the unregulated e-waste industry. Ugh!
Yikes, I’ve probably taken enough of your time. Before I go, I have one small favour to ask. I love writing, but I’d love it even more if you shared The Woz Report with your friends and family. Hit the button below, and enjoy your weekend.
Until next week…
